Avenues of Art
Toddler classes at The Artistry Project introduce children to basic art-making skills. They will explore materials and discover how they work as they draw, paint, sculpt, print, and collage exciting works of art. These classes will also build self confidence, encourage independent thinking, develop problem solving
skills, and provide an opportunity for creative expression.

The studio space is organized in centers, allowing the children to choose from various activities each week and to work at their own pace with their parents or care-givers. In addition to the art projects, children will enjoy socializing with one another as they play with art related developmental toys. Classes will wind down with a story that correlates with the theme or art concept for the day. One adult must stay and participate with the child.

AGES 3 1/2 TO 5 Our classes for ages 3 1/2 to 5 focus on experimentation with art media and discovering the ways in which they work. As artists begin to gain more control, the focus will shift to creating art that is more representational.

What is your favorite scary story? Autumn is a wonderful time to investigate things that go bump in the night. Artists will create creepy spiders making a web and haunted houses with spooky ghosts. An unsettling fall sunset and funny monsters will bring imaginations to life. Artists will use exciting new art materials as they paint, collage, and print in this season of fun and surprises.

Studio Fee: $130 Have you ever wondered what it would have been like to live when dinosaurs roamed the earth? Using their imaginations, artists will go back in time to discover these mysterious pre-historic animals. They will paint, print, collage, and sculpt t-rex’s and brontosaurus’ and maybe even go on a hunt for bones and fossils. Discover an adventure that's bound to be 'larger than life'.

Have you ever noticed the artwork in a book by Eric Carle or Dr. Seuss? Artists will be inspired by adventures in children's literature, then they'll create artwork related to the story. They’ll collage Rainbow Fish, paint a Wild Thing, print, sculpt, and draw. Discover how books and art can take imaginations anywhere!

AGES 4 TO 8 SATURDAYS CRAZY FOR COLOR Saturdays, Sept. 20, 27, Oct. 4, 11, 18, 25
11:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. Studio Fee: $130 What is your favorite color? Artists will look at all the ways color is used in art and how colors go together. They will create artwork that explores primary colors and newly mixed secondary colors. They'll add black and white to make colors light or dark and they will learn about the color wheel and it's complimentary, tertiary, warm, and cool colors. Artists will paint, print, sculpt, collage, and draw a bright new world with crazy colors.

AGES 5 TO 9 Whether it's your first class with us or your fifth, our small studio atmosphere allows our instructors to adjust the projects to the needs and skills of the artists. Our 5 to 9 year olds will constantly build on their knowledge of, and ability with, various media.

WACKY PERSPECTIVES

Can you imagine seeing the world from different points of view? Artists will draw, paint, print, collage, and sculpt the world as they see it from a variety of perspectives, including a large world from a bug’s view and outerspace from an alien’s view. They'll explore the earth from a bird's aerial view, the sea from a fish's view, and a tiny world from a giant’s view. Experience the world in a unique way!

Can art be about anything? Art can be a painting of a person, a collage of a landscape, and even a drawing of your favorite toy. Art can also be about shapes or colors, or about feelings and expressions. Artists will explore many themes and a wide variety of art materials as they create original, personal masterpieces.

AGES 5 TO 9 THE WORLD OF ART Fridays, Sept. 19, 26, Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Studio Fee: $130

Did you know the national symbol of Thailand was an elephant, that the boomerang came from Australia, or that the Japanese create beautiful kites? Grab your imaginations and your passport for a trip around the globe to discover art forms from Africa, Australia, South America, and Asia. Artists will draw, paint, print, and
sculpt works of art inspired by these different cultures.

Artists will use advanced techniques and a medley of paint, chalk, glue, paper, wire, cardboard, and found objects to create unique works of art, including cityscapes and self-portraits.

Artists will explore watercolor techniques such as masking, washing, and wet-on-wet techniques. They'll experiment with plastic wrap, salt, and tissue paper to create wonderfully wild paintings.
