Toddler University of Art
Our fun and exciting art classes for toddlers
engage children in art explorations that include drawing, painting, sculpture,
printmaking, and collage. The purpose is to build a basic knowledge of art
materials and how they work, while developing problem solving skills and
providing an opportunity for creative expression. The studio space is organized
in centers, allowing the children to work at their own pace with their parents
or caregivers. In addition to the art projects, children will interact with one
another as they play with art related developmental toys. Classes will wind down
with a story that correlates with the art concept for the day. One adult must
stay and participate with the child.

AGES 3 1/2 TO 5 Our classes for ages 3 1/2 to 5 focus on experimentation with art media and discovering the ways in which they work. As artists begin to gain more control, the focus will shift to creating art that is more representational.

Who is the most imaginative of all? Do portraits have to look realistic? Is Mona Lisa happy or sad? Can an artist paint a face blue? Finding their inspiration from famous portraits, artists will create a series of expressive faces, including family members and even pets! They will use mirrors to create unique self portraits. What secrets will they reveal?

Have you ever wanted to be a superhero? What special powers would you have? Artists will put on their creativity capes and soar through the world of comics and perhaps fight crimes. Using drawing, sculpture, painting, printing, and collage, artists will create a vehicle, a superhero logo, masks, and even a secret hideout. This class will be more than incredible than the Hulk!

Have you ever been to a puppet show? Puppets can be made from
many types of materials and can look like monsters, people, animals,
or creatures. Artists will create unique puppets each week using
painting, drawing, sculpting, and collage techniques with paper,
plaster, and even socks. They will also make a working marionette
with a stage to have their own show!

AGES 5 TO 10 Whether it's your first class with us or your fifth, our small studio atmosphere allows our instructors to adjust the projects to the needs and skills of the artists. Our 5 to 10 year olds will constantly build on their knowledge of, and ability with, various media.

Go green and use your recyclables to
make something great. Artists will bring in egg cartons, paper
tubes,
plastic bottles, cereal boxes, and milk cartons and make art while
being kind to mother nature. Their junk will
inspire them to be creative and look at the things they throw away
in a whole new artistic way!

A basic element of art is color, but how
much do you know? Artists will explore the primary, secondary, and
intermediate colors and how they work together. They will create
exciting designs using warm and cool colors, and mix colors to
create tints and shades. Artists will use watercolor and tempera
paint with a variety of other art media to make their work pop!

What are some different art styles? Throughout the centuries, the world of art has experienced many changes. Artists will explore various movements including Impressionism, Cubism, Pop Art, and Surrealism to get inspiration. They will create their own versions of these movements using drawing, painting, collage, and sculpting techniques.
