Winter 2009 Session 1
January 6 through February 14

AGES 2 TO 3 1/2
Winter Adventures For Toddlers
Our fun and exciting art classes for toddlers
engage children in art explorations that include drawing, painting, sculpture,
printmaking, and collage. The purpose is to build a basic knowledge of art
materials and how they work, while developing problem solving skills and
providing an opportunity for creative expression. The studio space is organized
in centers, allowing the children to work at their own pace with their parents
or caregivers. In addition to the art projects, children will interact with one
another as they play with art related developmental toys. Classes will wind down
with a story that correlates with the art concept for the day. One adult must
stay and participate with the child.

AGES 3 1/2 TO 5
Our classes for ages 3 1/2 to

art media and discovering the ways in which they work. As artists
begin to gain more control, the focus will shift to creating art
that is more representational.

What is your favorite fairy tale? Artists will
explore the world of fairy tales as they create candy cottages from Hansel
and Gretel, a puppet like Pinocchio, a mask like the big, bad wolf
from Little Red Riding Hood, and a giant's castle in the sky like in
Jack and the Beanstalk. They'll be sure to live happily ever after as they draw, collage,
paint, print, and sculpt characters and scenes from classic fairy tales.

like to lay on the beach or sled down a hill? Winter is here and that means
snowmen, icy landscapes, polar bears, penguins, and more. Let's embrace the cold
and have it inspire some cool artwork. Artists will paint, draw, sculpt, and
print the great things that come along with the season. So bundle up, put on
your boots, and chill out at the art studio.

How many different kinds of buildings can you think of? New

modern structures by drawing, sculpting, painting, printing, and
designing. Get out your measuring tapes and hardhats so you are
ready to construct, build, and assemble!

AGES 5 TO 10 Whether it's your first class with us
or your fifth, our small studio atmosphere allows our instructors to
adjust the projects to the needs and skills of the artists. Our 5 to
10 year olds will constantly build on their knowledge of, and
ability with, various media.

4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Studio Fee: $130 $75
Did you realize that art is all around
us? Architects who build skyscrapers, film makers who bring cartoons
to life, designers who create the fabric of our clothes, and the
people who make commercial packaging for candy bars are all ARTISTS!
Using drawing, painting, collage, and printmaking materials, artists
will become designers of the art in our everyday lives.

AGES 5 TO 10
ART STARTS WITH A MARK
Wednesdays, Jan. 7, 14, 21, 28, Feb. 4, 11
4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Studio Fee:
$130 $75
Where does art begin? Artists will start
with a simple mark, but their imaginations will turn it into a
unique work of art. Could an inkblot become a crazy creature, or a
rectangle become a skyscraper? Could a squiggle become the sea, or a
box become a rocketship? Artists will use drawing, painting,
printing, collage, and sculpture materials to make their mark into
something amazing.

OUTSIDE THE BOX
Thursdays, Jan. 8, 15, 22, 29, Feb. 5,
12
4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Studio Fee: $130 $75
How can artists think outside the box?
What if you were told to color “outside the lines?” Artists will
explore art and materials in unconventional ways and from new
perspectives. They will use painting, collage, sculpture and
printmaking materials to construct art inside the box in expected
ways, then deconstruct it outside the box in unexpected ways.
Imaginations are required.
